David Horst, a slam-dunk specialist and perhaps the region's most exciting boys' basketball player this past season, has been named Foothill League Player of the Year.

Horst, a 6-foot-3 senior, averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.5 steals to help Valencia (21-7) to the league title. He saved the best game of his career for last, scoring 33 points with eight steals in a 72-68 loss at Lakewood on Jan. 22 in the second round of the Southern Section Div. I-AA playoffs.
