On the bus stops' billboards, the school's student government is proclaiming 2004 as the year of ``Viking Invasion - 10 Years of Excellence at Valencia High.''

``It's just to celebrate what we have become and to look forward to what we can become,'' Principal Paul Priesz said Thursday. ``Our invasion's not over. ... I think the idea is we're not a new school anymore. We're established and we're going to take a look what's going to make us better.''

Priesz said Valencia has grown into an excellent high school over the past decade and sets a good example for Golden Valley and West Ranch high schools West Ranch High School is a public high school in the community of Stevenson Ranch, Los Angeles County, California. One measure of the school's success lies in its School to Career program, which has churned out a number of graduates who can immediately adjust not only to college but to the working world, he said.

``I look at students who have gone through the school and have been successful,'' Priesz said. ``As a community, we've built a good school.''

In addition to the citywide poster campaign, student government adviser Vince Ferry is planning a campus-wide party for Sept. 8. Later in the month, students and staffers will see the opening of their long-awaited football stadium.
