VALENCIA CHOIR INVITED TO WASHINGTON; GROUP WILL PERFORM 30-MINUTE PRIVATE CONCERTS TO RAISE TRAVEL FUNDS.

, ``Valkyries,'' has been invited to participate in the National Gold Festival April 7-12 in Washington, D.C. Just 26 choirs in the U.S. were selected to perform for the festival.

The cost for the entire group to make the trip is $36,000 and the Valkyries are asking for sponsors to help with the travel costs. Individuals or businesses can make a donation to the Valkyries as a group or sponsor an individual choir member at $1,500 per person.

In exchange for contributions, the group will perform a 30-minute program for private parties during the holidays. The program will include holiday favorites such as ``Carol of the Bells'' and ``Winter Wonderland Wonderland

Auditions are held at the beginning of each school year for the ``Valkyries,'' and 20 girls are selected for the choir on the basis of talent, musicianship and vocal quality. The choir was chosen as Top Vocal Ensemble The word ensemble can refer to

 last year at the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, which qualified members for the national festival. Valencia's music program was awarded Top School Program in Anaheim.

``At the National Gold Festival, the group will perform and get rated all over again,'' Wait said. ``Then they put all of the groups together to perform at the Kennedy Center (for the Performing Arts), but the top group will perform one piece for the entire audience.''

After performing at the festival, the choir will stay two extra days to see the sights of the nation's capital. Representative Howard ``Buck'' McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, is arranging tours for the girls to take during their visit, Wait said.
