Herrick threw for a personal-best 441 yards to lead Valencia High to a 51-34 victory against visiting Chino Chino (chē`nō), city (1990 pop. 59,682), San Bernardino co., S Calif.; founded 1887, inc. 1910. It is the business and processing center of a diversified farming (notably dairying) area.  Hills on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Div. II football playoffs. The Vikings (9-3) will meet Canyon of Canyon Country in next week's semifinals.

Herrick, the only player in state history to pass for more than 10,000 yards, threw for five touchdowns against Chino Hills (11-1) and rushed for another.

The Vikings' Shane Vereen and Virgil Hill Virgil Eugene Hill (born January 18, 1964 Clinton, Missouri) is a Joplin, Missouri fighter partly of Native American heritage, who forged a solid connection between the state of North Dakota and the sport of boxing.  each caught five passes, for 134 and 133 yards, respectively.

It was Herrick's second career 400-yard preformance, the other coming in his first varsity start as a sophomore against Bishop Amat in 2003.

After Chino Hills drew within 35-34 with 8:39 remaining on a touchdown by Steven Thomas, Vereen kept Valencia in the lead by blocking the extra point. And when Valencia got the ball back, Herrick threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Vereen, his fourth score of the night.

Valencia took a 7-0 lead when Herrick called an audible A protected MP3 file format from the Audible.com audio download service. See Audible.com.  and scored on a 14-yard run just 2:26 into the game. But Chino Hills answered with a 12-play drive, tying the score on Trent Newberry's 5-yard run.

Valencia scored on its next three possessions to build a 28-7 lead midway through the second quarter, with Herrick throwing TD passes on each drive. A 56-yarder to Hill gave Valencia the lead, and scoring passes of 20 and 24 yards to Vereen pushed Valencia's advantage to 21 points.

Not only did Valencia score on its first four drives, but the 28 points marked the most Chino Hills had allowed all season.

But as befits an undefeated team, Chino Hills rallied. Though it relied mostly on the running of Jason Assanah (24 carries, 114 yards), it was a pair of touchdown passes from Thomas to Tony Harkey that accounted for both touchdowns. Valencia's Michael Robotham blocked the extra point after Chino Hills' third touchdown, keeping it 28-20 at the half.

Valencia extended its lead to 35-20 on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Herrick to Hill early in the third quarter. But Chino Hills responded with two touchdowns by Thomas sandwiched around an interception by Harkey, the game's only turnover.

With the score 42-34, Valencia's Keith Klemens sacked sack 1
