Sony, a consumer electronics manufacturer, announced on Thursday (8 January) the launch of the VAIO P-series ultra portable PC See Ultra-Mobile PC and Portable Media Center. .

According to the company, the new device weighs 638g and measures just slightly more than a standard office envelope. It features 2GB of RAM, up to 128GB solid state hard drive, an 8" VAIO X-black LCD display with a resolution of 1600x768, VAIO Everywair WWAN (7.2Mb/s HSDPA / 2Mb/s HSUPA) and inbuilt GPS capability.

The product offers the option to start up in Windows Vista or to use the XMB (XrossMediaBar), familiar in the PSP (PlayStation Portable) See PlayStation.  and the latest BRAVIA TVs, which allows quick access to features such as instant messaging, browsing the Internet or playing back music.

The VAIO P-series comes in red, dark green, black and white, all with a high gloss piano finish. The product range will be available in the UK in February 2009, priced from GBP849.
