Introduced in 1997, WEP was found to be very inadequate and was superseded by WPA, WPA2 and 802.11i. ). As a WEP, V.i. The solution prevents unauthorized access to sensitive IP that resides within software programs through a combination of run-time security monitoring, application integrity checking, machine authentication, and granular function-level re-encryption. CodeArmor ensures that software only runs on authenticated Windows XP Embedded-based equipment by continuously verifying the integrity of system files and other system attributes.

Global Information, Inc. the world market for embedded software will grow from about $1.6 billion in 2004 to $3.5 billion by 2009. Many ISVs and providers of high value applications are selling into emerging markets where IP laws are traditionally weak. These organizations are becoming increasingly worried about the risk of competitors accessing their source code and pirating software. Since embedded software applications are often deployed in remote and untrusted sites, software protection technology is a necessary defense against the threat of reverse engineering.

"Organizations are concerned about the ease with which their embedded software applications can be copied and stolen from their commercial, off-the-shelf platforms and replicated by competitors," said Victor DeMarines, vice president of products, V.i. Labs. "Our software protection technology counters the reverse engineering threat as well as ensures that software will not operate on unauthorized equipment."

"We are very excited V.i. Laboratories has joined the Windows Embedded Partner Program and look forward to extending its leading security offering to the broader Windows Embedded community," said Ilya Bukshteyn, director of Windows Embedded Marketing for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "Providing V.i. Labs' security solutions will help companies developing devices on the Windows XP Embedded platform protect their sensitive applications."
