Utility Billing Consultants.

Owner: Thomas Beane Address: 4618 JFK Blvd., Suite 238, North Little Rock, 72116, 771-0434 Start-up date: September

If your company is paying out the nose for utility and telephone services, you may benefit from a billing consultant.

Thomas Beane, owner of Utility Billing Consultants, says he can save commercial, industrial and institutional clients up to 20 percent on their utility and telephone bills.

By auditing previous bills, Beane compares a client's usage to his bill. This process allows Beane to locate errors, eliminate unneeded services and find lower rates for which the client qualifies.

Beane has a master's degree in operations research from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He says he saved his first client, a Little Rock motel, 15 percent in annual electricity bills.

The home-based business is affiliated with a national organization that specializes in billing consultation.

"Utility Billing Consultants operates on a contingency basis," Beane says. In other words, if Beane doesn't save a client money, there is no fee.

A former operations manager for a Fortune 500 company, Beane says the opportunity to open his new business allowed him to return to his native state.

Beane says his business depends on referrals and he is currently looking for independent salespeople to solicit clients.
