Uro-9. The symptoms and treatment of Cowper's syringoceles in children: two case presentations.Cowper's syringocele is an uncommon abnormality of the male urethra that may present at various ages in childhood, and the diagnosis may be delayed due to the rarity of this anomaly. We report two cases to illustrate the different presentations and treatment of these lesions in children. A retrospective chart review of Cowper's syringoceles diagnosed at our Children's Hospital was performed. Presentation varied from prenatal bilateral hydronephrosis at birth to irritative ir·ri·ta·tive adj. Involving irritation. Adj. 1. irritative - (used of physical stimuli) serving to stimulate or excite; "an irritative agent" irritating voiding symptoms and diurnal incontinence in a school aged child. Cystoscopically the lesions appeared as translucent cystic swellings on the floor of the bulbar urethra. Both syringoceles were unroofed by transurethral resection using the Collins knife. Cowper's syringoceles may be a cause of prenatal bilateral hydronephrosis or voiding dysfunction in the young male patient. Recognition and definitive treatment will usually result in a favorable outcome. Kristie Blanchard, MD, and Joseph Ortenberg, MD. Children's Hospital/LSUHSC New Orleans, LA. |
