Urgent: the coming marriage amendment.

Ottawa -- The movement within the U.S. Catholic Church on defending marriage (see above, under U.S.) is more than can be said about Canada. Here a pall of silence has descended on the national and regional Conferences of Catholic Bishops since the enactment of Bill C-38 as law in July 2005. A look at the Canadian bishops' website (CCCB) indicates that no public statements have been made by the bishops for over a year. It is as if the subject has disappeared from their radar. This is despite the fact that a free vote on the marriage issue is scheduled to take place in the House of Commons some time in the coming fall or winter, as promised by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Comment:

It is imperative that Canadian bishops urge all Canadian Catholics, to prepare for the coming free vote on marriage in the House of Commons. The family unit, and Canada as a whole, can ill afford to squander what may be the last opportunity to overturn the same-sex "marriage" travesty foisted on this nation by the former Liberal government and its accomplices in the homosexual and left-liberal communities.
