Urban conference.


Starting with the Autumn 2006 issue of this magazine, AMERICAN FORESTS American Forests is a nonprofit conservation organization that promotes healthy forests and urban tree planting.

The organization was established in 1875 as the American Forestry Association, by physician/horticulturist John Aston Warder and a group of like-minded citizens
 has been making the case for a new framework that will allow the coexistence co·ex·ist

 of humans and nature. We are exploring that framework--its historical context and opportunities for the future--in these pages, but it also will be the subject of an AMERICAN FORESTS-sponsored international conference next spring.

The conference--People-Nature: Building a New Framework--will be held May 28-30 in Orlando, Florida The city of Orlando is a major city in central Florida and is the county seat of Orange County, Florida. According to the 2000 census, the city population was 185,951. A 2006 U.S. . It will bring together the business, government, and conservation communities in an effort to improve and sustain urban ecosystems Urban ecosytems are the cities, towns and urban strips constructed by humans.

This growth in the urban population and the supporting built infrastructure has impacted on both urban environments and also on areas which surround urban areas.
. The conference will allow AMERICAN FORESTS to solidify and expand partnerships, assess our progress, and plan strategies for the future.
