The elusive British street artist has inspired talent halfway around the globe .
Much like his predecessor, there's very little we know about the Russian street artist painting Moscow red. What's certain is he goes by the pen name, P183, is 28 years old, and has studied communicative design.
Reminiscent of Banksy's tongue-incheek style, P183's artwork engages in unabashed political and social commentaries with a playful, quirky edge. Scattered across Moscow's cityscape, he creates eye-catching visual illusions that explore the interaction between art and the urban environment. While some consider P183's arrival on the street art scene a threat to Banksy, it could equally be said, that the Russian has made a bold statement in favour of street art and creative expression.
Banksy himself divided the art community the world over, with many critics skeptical of his work and what it represents. There's no denying, though, the man's immense talent. So much so, that Andrew Nairne, head of arts strategy at Arts Council England Arts Council England was formed in 1994 when the Arts Council of Great Britain was divided into three separate bodies for England, Scotland and Wales. It is an Executive Agency of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. and a judge for Britain's prestigious Turner Prize, once tweeted high praise for him. Banksy was never nominated for the Turner Prize, but Nairne gave him his due by saying he found his work 'smart, funny, generous and original'. The guerrilla art of Banksy and P183 might not be applauded by the mainstream art establishment, but they have transcended gallery space by appearing on our street corners. Art no longer has a snooty, uptown address.
