CONNECT REMOTE LOCATIONS to a corporate LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  with modems that provide advanced bridging and routing capabilities The Megabit Modems 410F and 420F are point-to-point bridging and routing solutions targeted for LAN extension applications. The Megabit Modern 410F (local device) and Megabit Modem 420F (remote device) enable the transmission of cells over ADSL at speeds up to 7.552 Mbps downstream and 928 kbps upstream. The modems include a setting to route all IP datagrams and bridge all other traffic; DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers.  services; an autodetecting 10/100Base-T ethernet port A socket on a computer or network device for plugging in an Ethernet cable. See WAN port. ; and LEDs that provide continual status at-a-glance for power, LAN and ADSL connections. AccessGain software provides access through an HTTP server The software that services HTTP requests, which is the protocol of the Web. The term may refer only to the HTTP services in the Web server, or the term can be used as a synonym for "Web server." See Web server and HTTP.  to configure, manage and monitor the modems through a Web-based interface from the LAN or WAN port. An SNMP agent provides management through any industry-standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  platform from the LAN or WAN port. Software upgrades for the modems can be performed remotely via TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) A lightweight version of the FTP protocol that has no directory browsing or password capability. Employing UDP rather than TCP for transport, TFTP is typically used to transfer firmware upgrades to network equipment such as .--ADC

telecommunications networks. The unit also provides IP analysis capabilities at high-speed SONET/SDH rates. The NIC 10G, with a new IP-over-SONET option, allows network technicians to verify point-to-point protocol link establishment procedures, including link control protocol and IP control protocol. The system can generate and analyze test patterns, as well as errors, enabling the detection of implementation errors and performance problems within the network backbone infrastructure. Resulting performance information includes throughput statistics, latency measurements, valid and invalid packet counts and checksums, bandwidth utilization, error counts, and packet lengths. The NIC 10G has an intuitive touch-sensitive GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. , a flexible software/firmware-based design in a portable platform, and is interoperable with the entire NIC product line.--Digital Lightwave

Speed troubleshooting

Booth 4432

INCREASE VoIP NETWORK QUALITY AND EFFICIENCY with real-time analysis of VoIP networks. The Advisor IP Telephony Analyzer and the IP Telephony Reporter offer features that allow for more insightful voice-quality assessment, combined with diagnostics, for optimized network performance. The analyzer improves voice-quality testing by allowing analysis of the voice traffic on a packet network. The software allows network engineers to isolate the cause of poor voice quality within the VoIP network, while providing the option of hearing the audio with jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle  or dejittered. In addition, the analyzer adds features that automate the troubleshooting of networks suffering from jitter and packet loss. The Reporter brings together the end-to-end measurements of delay, objective voice quality and echo gathered from Agilent's Voice Quality Tester (VQT VQT Voice Quality Tester
VQT Virtual Quality Tester (Agilent)
VQT Voice Quality Testing
), and data on problems inside the packet network gathered from the analyzer. It then presents this information in a single report that baselines voice-quality vs. packet-network metrics. The voice-quality measurements produced by the VQT are plotted on a 3D graphical display, providing an instant impression of overall voice quality as experienced by the listener. Other reports indicate how voice quality varies over time, whether unacceptable voice quality coincides with changes in packet network behavior and whether high voice utilization impacts data network application response times and throughputs.--Agilent
