Unwired Planet Introduces Developer Starter Kit and Comprehensive Support Programs; Unwired Planet to Offer the UP.Kit which Enables Development of Mobile Intranet Applications.


REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 1996--Unwired Planet Inc. (UP), http://www.uplanet.com, today introduced the UP.Kit, a complete package that system integrators, VARs, resellers, developers, ISVs and consultants can use immediately to build, test and promote mobile intranet and wireless Internet applications for the UP.Link platform.

Unwired Planet's UP.Link platform gives wireless devices, such as cellular phones, access to information and services on the Internet and on private intranets.

UP.Kit includes software, phones and support to construct a wireless solution using Unwired Planet's Handheld Device Markup Language The Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML) is a markup language intended for display on handheld computers, information appliances, smartphones, etc.. It is similar to HTML, but for wireless and handheld devices with small displays, like PDA, mobile phones and so on.  (HDML (Handheld Device Markup Language) A specialized version of HTML designed to enable wireless pagers, cellphones and other handheld devices to obtain information from Web pages. Customers interested in developing for the UP.Link platform may choose various levels of support. Gold level support, which is free to all developers, includes the software developer kit, developer technical publications, participation in an UP developer newsgroup newsgroup
