UnumProvident has enhanced its critical illness and individual short-term disability insurance products. The CI product's base coverage pays benefits for heart attack, stroke, permanent paralysis, kidney failure, organ transplant or coronary-artery bypass surgery. The enhanced coverage pays an additional benefit upon diagnosis of cancer. A new five-year benefit period tops the list of enhancements to the disability product. A new optional rider covers mental illness.
