Unprecedented responses.

It is our custom to solicit responses from those companies appearing in our directory issues that are outside the framework of what will be published. We figure if the people respond to the pertinent information that is printed, they might not object to answering a couple of questions concerning their view of their industry. Over the years, we have found that we get more responses this way, as opposed to directly soliciting for this type of information.

custom mixing industries (directory begins on page 61) have annually been the most responsive to these informal surveys. This year was no exception, as 49 of the 79 surveyed responded.

The responses could be viewed as somewhat predictable, as a majority of those responding mentioned that high raw material prices were the main problem to the mixers. The next frequently mentioned concern was high energy prices followed by diminishing di·min·ish

This is unprecedented in this informal survey, but should be taken with a grain of salt, because of the number of non-respondents.

The optimism that should be generated from these announcements is tempered over the number of responses that mention the high prices of raw materials and shortages of supplies. This is also unprecedented in the survey's 20-year history, but the results should be taken more seriously, because I'm pretty certain that the nonrespondents are experiencing similar problems.
