Jacada Ltd. (NASDAQ: JCDA), a provider of e-business infrastructure software, today announced that the University of Georgia (UGA) has implemented its Jacada(R) for Java solution, enabling 30,000 students to register for classes via the Web.

By implementing the Jacada solution, UGA offers students an easy-to-navigate, "point-and-click" environment to access their important personal student information and records from any location.

UGA has implemented the Jacada for Java solution to Web enable its legacy Online Accredited Student Information System (OASIS), a mainframe-based solution that has allowed students, since 1995, to register for classes, view unofficial transcripts and degree audits, update contact information, as well as select tuition method of payment. Because the original OASIS application was written in the NATURAL programming language and distributed over a Wide-Area Network, students could only access this system from dedicated workstations located in computer labs across campus. Pleased with the functionality of OASIS, UGA turned to Jacada to move its mainframe-based system to the Web.

By extending the application to the Web, students have access to the system from the privacy of their own dorm room or home. Jacada for Java enables students to work in a point-and-click, Web-based environment as opposed to the tedious and difficult-to-navigate "green screen" environment. Further, Jacada for Java offers a many-to-one capability that enables one Java window to contain data or fields from multiple host screens. By utilizing pull-down menus, UGA eliminated a number of screens on the front end.

We do feel, however, that in using Jacada for Java to take OASIS to the next level, we have found an information systems solution that will provide the flexibility that will ease any future e-business transitioning."

UGA is also beginning the process of integrating other applications into the OASIS system. Within three to six months, UGA hopes to introduce functionality that allows students to request transcripts and letters of certification from the university registrar. Also, they eventually hope to include a financial aid component. Jacada for Java will integrate these new applications at the interface level, providing a consistent look and feel to students.
