University fills vacancy, shuffles staff.

The University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  has filled a key management post and appointed three people to interim positions while it conducts searches for permanent hires.

Don Harris, currently the vice provost for information technology and chief information officer at Emory University Emory University (ĕm`ərē), near Atlanta, Ga.; coeducational; United Methodist; chartered as Emory College 1836, opened 1837 at Oxford. It became Emory Univ. in 1915 and in 1919 moved to Atlanta. , has been named the UO's vice provost for information services See Information Systems.  and chief information officer. He will begin the job Aug. 1.

Harris will fill a position left vacant by the retirement of Joanne Hugi last year. UO Librarian Deb Carver held the post on an interim basis this year.

Prior to his appointment at Emory, Harris was the associate vice president for information systems at the University of Memphis The University of Memphis is a public research university located in Memphis, Tennessee, United States, and is a flagship public research university of the Tennessee Board of Regents system. .

Harris also has held administrative and academic positions at Messiah College Messiah College is a Christian liberal arts college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences with approximately 3,000 undergraduate students in over 60 majors/courses of study, located in the rolling hills of south central Pennsylvania in the United States. , the University of Maryland University of Maryland can refer to:
  • University of Maryland, College Park, a research-extensive and flagship university; when the term "University of Maryland" is used without any qualification, it generally refers to this school
 and Pepperdine University.

He holds a doctorate from Claremont Graduate University Claremont Graduate University (formerly The Claremont Graduate School) was founded in 1925 in the city of Claremont, California. It is one of two graduate institutions in the prestigious Claremont Colleges consortium, the other being the Keck Graduate Institute.  and bachelor's and master's degrees from Biola University.

In other moves, the UO has appointed Charles Martinez as interim vice provost for diversity and institutional equity. He replaces Greg Vincent, who left to take a similar post at the University of Texas. Martinez currently is a professor of educational leadership and director of diversity in the UO College of Education.

The university also appointed Mike Eyster as interim vice president for student affairs. Eyster currently serves as assistant vice president for student affairs and housing director.

He fills the position left vacant when Anne Leavitt resigned last month to become director of scholarship services for the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg.

Student affairs includes the Erb Memorial Union, financial aid and scholarships, admissions, the registrar, health center and physical activity and recreation services.

In addition, Robin Holmes will serve as interim dean of students, a post also held by Leavitt until her departure. Holmes is currently the director of the UO counseling and testing service.

National searches for permanent appointments to all three positions will begin this fall.
