Universal Forest Products Acquires 50% Ownership of United Lumber & Reman, LLC.


GRAND RAPIDS Grand Rapids, city (1990 pop. 189,126), seat of Kent co., SW central Mich., on the Grand River; inc. 1850. The second largest city in the state, it is a distribution, wholesale, and industrial center for an area that yields fruit, dairy products, farm produce, , Mich. -- Universal Forest Products, Inc. , an industrial wood manufacturing plant located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama Muscle Shoals is a city famous for its music and contributions to American popular music, in Colbert County, Alabama, USA. As of 2006, the United States Census Bureau estimates the population of the city to be 12,703[1]. The city is included in The Shoals MSA. . Universal also agreed to provide financing for United and plans to consolidate the company in its financial results.

United purchases low-grade lumber and prepares it for market through grading, sorting and manufacturing processes. Its products are used in a variety of industrial applications. The company's 2005 revenues were approximately $26 million. Universal has an option to purchase the remaining 50% of the company.
