UnitedHealth Group Named to Dow Jones Sustainability North America and World Indexes.

Receives Top Total Score in Health Care Provider Industry Across Economic, Environmental and Social Criteria

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) today announced that it has been named to both the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI NA) and the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI W) in recognition of its exemplary efforts and continued leadership in economic, environmental, and social performance. This marks the 10th consecutive year that UnitedHealth Group has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.

The Sustainability Indexes are reviewed annually by Dow Jones and the Zurich-based Sustainable Asset Management Group. Companies on the Dow Jones Global Index are evaluated on a range of general business criteria including stakeholder engagement, corporate governance and environmental reporting, as well as on industry-specific sustainability trends. The DJSI NA captures the leading 20 percent of the 600 largest North American companies, while the DJSI W includes the top 10 percent from the 2,500 largest companies worldwide.

"Being recognized again on this select list of the world's most sustainable companies is a testament to our efforts to fulfill the UnitedHealth Group mission of helping people live healthier lives," said Jeannine M. Rivet, executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group. "We uphold this mission in every aspect of our business, from the strength of our corporate governance policies to our commitment to provide quality, affordable health care to everyone. Each day our employees strive to make our company and the world in which we live better, and this recognition is a credit to their efforts."

In addition to receiving the top overall score in the health care provider industry, UnitedHealth Group received industry-leading scores in several assessment categories including corporate governance, talent attraction and retention, and social reporting. UnitedHealth Group also led the health care provider industry in the Social Dimension category, with the highest scores for all industry-specific criteria: stakeholder engagement, standards for suppliers, service to patients, and partnerships towards sustainable healthcare.

As evidence of UnitedHealth Group's commitment to social sustainability issues, the company launched a new Web site in June 2008 dedicated to social responsibility, highlighting its initiatives to promote health around the world and foster corporate citizenship.
