Today at Citrix iForum(TM) Global 2004 (http://www.citrixiforum.com), Citrix Systems Citrix Systems' (NASDAQ: CTXS) is an American technology company, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with subsidiary operations in California and Massachusetts, with additional development centers in Australia, India and the UK. , Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS CTXS Citrix Systems (NASDAQ stock ticker symbol) ), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, announced that the United States Air Force United States Air Force (USAF)

) has selected Citrix(R) MetaFrame(R) Presentation Server and Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager to enable global, on-demand access to the Military Personnel Data System (MilPDS), the Air Force's primary human resource system. When implementation of the Citrix access infrastructure is complete, it will provide secure, easy and instant access to more than 1.7 million personnel files for 12,500 personnel specialists supporting Air Force operations in 180 locations worldwide.

"Using the Citrix program will significantly improve the deployment of MilPDS to Air Force users throughout the world," said Mark Goldman, area vice president, Citrix Federal Government Systems. "By simplifying and increasing access to MilPDS, fewer Air Force resources will be required to execute behind-the-line administrative actions. Across the entire Air Force, that means fewer people will be required for personnel support, making more troops available to directly support front-line operations."

In addition to facilitating delivery of the MilPDS application throughout the world, AFPC will simplify and secure the interface between the modules within the MilPDS system using Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager. MilPDS users will be able to authenticate (1) To verify (guarantee) the identity of a person or company. To ensure that the individual or organization is really who it says it is. See authentication and digital certificate.

(2) To verify (guarantee) that data has not been altered.

Under the contract, AFPC purchased licenses to support 4,200 concurrent users for both Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server and MetaFrame Password Manager, two key components of the MetaFrame Access Suite. Although the deployment will support 12,500 personnel specialists, Citrix concurrent user licensing allows AFPC to pay for only the licenses it needs to ensure on-demand access for the actual number of users at any single point in time.

Currently, the MilPDS system utilizes a "thick" client architecture that enables workstation connectivity to the central data repository See repository.  located at Randolph Air Force Base Randolph Air Force Base (Randolph AFB) is a base of the United States Air Force located in Universal City, Texas, near San Antonio. Randolph AFB was dedicated in June 20, 1930, as a flying training base and continues in that mission today. It serves as headquarters of the U.  (AFB AFB

Across 180 worldwide locations and 12,500 users, the cumulative cost and complexity of installing the thick client can be a significant burden on resources.

At the same time, users in distant locations require significant data-transfer times to process even basic information. Despite the direct, high-bandwidth connection, the large packages of information created by MilPDS result in long waits for geographically-remote users. Moving to a holistic access strategy executed with Citrix access infrastructure not only eliminates the requirement to distribute "thick" patches to every user computer, it also dramatically reduces the bandwidth required to deliver information. The net result is less time spent servicing the IT infrastructure and more time spent serving airmen.

"In distant locations such as Turkey, for example, generating a unit Alpha Roster under the existing system might take as long as three hours," continued Goldman. "Using Citrix, the same report takes 30 minutes; user feedback from these locations has been very positive as a result."

"Moving from a series of access tactics to a Citrix-supported access strategy will enable AFPC to serve airmen better and at a lower total cost of operation," said Goldman. "This is tangible defense transformation, creating a leaner, stronger support system for military personnel."
