I was pleased to see the board take this action, Russell said. We needed a commitment from the board on some of these renovations, and they have shown they are committed to this.

After the initial capital campaign kicked off with the goal to raise $53 million, the economic environment led trustees in April to scale it back to $35 million.

We re taking it one step at a time, Russell said, noting the university has already raised about $31 million in cash and pledges toward the $35 million goal he hopes to reach by June 30.

As part of the campaign, the Methodist school with a steady enrollment of about 1,500 students has already completed $1.8 million in renovations for the Furr Welcome Center, $2.25 million on the Bynum Band Hall dedicated last spring, and $1.5 million to athletic facilities unveiled in August.
