ZyXEL Communications Inc., a leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet connectivity and routing products, today announced the P870HN, a VDSL See DSL.

VDSL - Very high bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line
2 gateway with embedded 802.11n wireless technology.

The P870HN offers the ultimate in speed, coverage and flexibility in deployment. ZyXEL will demonstrate the gateway at this year s Supercomm, taking place October 21-23 in Chicago.

VDSL2 has gained popularity in the United

States due to the increasing number of fiber deployments, including Fiber to the Node Fiber to the node (FTTN), also called fiber to the neighborhood or fiber to the cabinet (FTTCab),[1] is a telecommunication architecture based on fiber-optic cables run to a cabinet serving a neighborhood.  (FTTN (Fiber To The Neighborhood or Fiber To The Node) See FTTC. ), Fiber to the Curb Fiber to the curb (FTTC), also called fibre to the kerb (FTTK),[1] is a telecommunications system based on fiber-optic cables run to a platform that serves several customers.  (FTTC (Fiber To The Curb) The installation of optical fiber to within several hundred feet of the home or office. At that point, the optics are converted into electronics for delivery into the premises, typically using DSL. ) and some Fiber to the Building (FTTB FTTB Fiber To The Building

). Operators use 100Mbps VDSL2 connections over copper from the end of the fiber line into subscriber homes clearing the way for premium services like IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) Also called "TV over IP," IPTV delivers scheduled TV programs and video-on-demand (VOD) via the IP protocol and digital streaming techniques used to watch video on the Internet.  and HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates .

In addition, the P870HN can automatically switch between high-speed VDSL over PTM and legacy ADSL See DSL.

ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
2+ over ATM, allowing operators to use the one device for subscribers both inside and outside the VDSL2 loop. This and the gateway s built-in TR069 technology for remote management make it a tremendous cost saver for operators trying to minimize deployment and maintenance expenses. And advanced built-in QoS optimized for IPTV facilitate easy deployment and enhance user experience of this premium service.

Home networking has become crucial for families. With 802.11n wireless, 4-port switch and firewall built into the P870HN, telcos can offer subscribers a one-box solution to broadband access and home networking thus tapping into this revenue pool. This eliminates the need for subscribers to install off the shelf networking equipment that telcos end up supporting without the help of remote management capabilities.

IPTV and HDTV are important services for differentiation and revenue creation and home networking is paramount to families today, said Brian Feng, senior vice president, key accounts business unit for ZyXEL. With the P870HN, ZyXEL offers Telcos a complete, one-box solution that meets these needs along with flexible deployment options.

- Universal VDSL2/ADSL2+ Functionality--Bi-directional, high-speed VDSL2, VDSL connection with speeds up to 100/45Mbps in PTM mode and 24/1Mbps ADSL2+, ADSL2 and ADSL connections in ATM mode. This powerful feature ensures the service provider can support the connection not only on the IP network, but also on the legacy ATM network with the same device.

- 802.11n Technology for Extreme Performance and Coverage--With data rates up to 300 Mbps, the P870HN provides stable and reliable wireless connections for high-speed data and multimedia delivery.

- Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) Support--Service providers can freely design their QoS policy and prioritize mission-critical services such as IPTV and VoIP. This increases network efficiency and brings the promise of triple-play into residential users lives.
