United States: SCS Engineers Awarded $162,000 Brownfields Assessment Contract by Chula Vista Redevelopment Agency.

SCS Engineers has been awarded a $162,000 contract by the Chula Vista Chula Vista (ch`lə), city (1990 pop. 135,163), San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1911.  Redevelopment Agency to perform a community-wide brownfields assessment of the City of Chula Vista s Southwest Redevelopment Project Area. The project is funded by two Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  Brownfields Program grants totaling $400,000.

SCS is responsible for completing an area-wide inventory, incorporating the inventory into a Geographic Information System geographic information system (GIS)

Computerized system that relates and displays data collected from a geographic entity in the form of a map. The ability of GIS to overlay existing data with new information and display it in colour on a computer screen is used primarily to
 (GIS), identifying site selection criteria for Phase I environmental site assessments, and completing the Phase I assessments for selected sites. As a grant recipient, the Redevelopment Agency is required to submit various reports for regulatory compliance. SCS will assist the Redevelopment Agency with the preparation of these reports as needed as needed prn. See prn order. .

The community-wide brownfield assessment will provide valuable information to transform the Southwest Redevelopment Project Area into a vibrant, safe, healthy and sustainable community Sustainable communities are communities planned, built, or modified to promote sustainable living. They tend to focus on environmental sustainability (including development and agriculture) and economic sustainability. , said Daniel E. Johnson, SCS Vice President and San Diego Operations Manager. Mr. Johnson is Project Principal from SCS Engineers; Nicki Field, Project Manager.
