The HBSS 3.0 task order was awarded to Northrop Grumman Corporation via the Air Force Network-Centric Solutions (NETCENTS NETCENTS Network-Centric Solutions (US Air Force) ) contract. Northrop Grumman Information Systems is the prime contractor and holder of the NETCENTS contract with the US Air Force Combat Information Transport System (CITS CITS China International Travel Service CITS Center for International Trade and Security CITS Center for Infrastructure and Transportation Studies (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) CITS Combat Information Transport ) Program Management Office. SIPRNet is the communications backbone of the Department of Defense (DoD) that facilitates the exchange of classified tactical and operational information at the SECRET classification level for the Air Force and other branches of the Armed Services. Under the terms of the agreement, McAfee will deploy the Defense Information Systems Agency s (DISA) Host Based Security System (HBSS) solution which provides desktops, servers and laptops across the DoD with the McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention Systems (McAfee HIPS) signature and behavioral protection, and a system firewall. McAfee HIPS is the underlying technology, and an integral component, of the DISA HBSS solution, which monitors, detects, and counters against known cyber-threats to the DoD s enterprise architecture. The U.S. Air Force has enhanced its cyber security infrastructure through its worldwide deployment of HBSS, said Mike Carpenter, senior vice president, Public Sector, McAfee. Given our experience helping DISA expand HBSS throughout DoD, McAfee can help the Air Force maximize the full benefits of the HBSS architecture. In addition, this new HBSS security framework will provide the Air Force with a strong centralized security management system to provide critical cyber information to the newly created 24th Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base Lackland Air Force Base (lăk`lənd), U.S. military installation, c.6,835 acres (2,766 hectares), S Tex., W of San Antonio; est. 1941. It is a major air force training center. . This deployment also provides the McAfeeA; VirusScan Enterprise, McAfeeA; Anti-spyware Enterprise and McAfeeA; Policy Auditor solutions to enhance the security of SIPRNet and measure system security compliancy. This new capability will provide the U.S. Air Force with a consolidated enterprise security management and reporting system for increased cyber situational awareness. This contract is a follow on to a Non-Classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNet) contract with the U.S. Air Force CITS Program Management Office that was rapidly deployed by McAfee and Northrop Grumman in the second half of 2008. The NIPRNet roll out of HBSS for the U.S. Air Force was a great success that deployed to over 500,000 hosts in a six month period. This was the largest and fastest single McAfee HIPS deployment that McAfee has undertaken to date worldwide.
