United States: EnterpriseDB gets investment from Red Hat.

Illume Software adds $1M to launch iZUP mobile phone app October 21, 2009 EnterpriseDB Corp., a Westford-based company that provides products and services to support the PostgreSQL open source database, has landed an investment from open source pioneer Red Hat Inc. The two companies did not disclose the amount of the investment.

In addition to supplying a version of the open source operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
 Linux, North Carolina-based Red Hat also provides products that work with the OS, including JBoss and Postgres Plus, which is EnterpriseDB s distribution of the database software that includes enterprise components, installers and professional documentation.

According to officials at both companies, the investment in EnterpriseDB is part of a partnership aimed at increasing enterprise adoption of open source software in the enterprise.

In April, EnterpriseDB entered into a deal with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corp. to embed EnterpriseDB s Postgres Plus Advanced Server technology into IBM s DB2 9.7 database, which allowed applications written for Oracle Inc. s database products to run in DB2.
