United States: Dalsa expands GigE Vision industrial camera line.

Byline: deepak03

Two new models join the Genie family of GigE Vision-compliant cameras from Dalsa for use in industrial imaging applications in the semiconductor and robotics industries. Both the Genie C1280 color camera and the Genie M1280 monochrome camera employ a 1/3-in. CCD sensor See CCD.  capable of operating at up to 24 fps with a resolution of 1.2 Mpixels.

Dalsa, the cameras integrate both camera and board image-acquisition technologies to act as a single machine-vision component in one small package. Each camera has an RJ45 ruggedized screw-mount cable connector, useful for robotic applications. Other features include a global electronic shutter with exposure control and onboard flat-field correction The goal of flat-field correction (or "flat-fielding") is to remove artifacts from 2-D images that are caused by variations in the pixel-to-pixel sensitivity of the detector and/or by distortions in the optical path. . In addition, the Genie C1280 provides onboard color conversion to produce crisp, clear images.

Like all Genie cameras, the C1280 and M1280 are certified compliant with the AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture  (Automated Imaging Association) GigE Vision standard to directly link to a PC. These cameras take full advantage of Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  technology, transmitting data using standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables over distances of up to 100 m and allowing a greater distance between the camera and inspection system.

The Genie C1280 and M1280 work with Dalsa's Sapera Essential software and Genie Framework package for simplified camera setup and configuration. A Sapera Essential standard processing-tool run-time license is offered at no additional charge when combined with a Dalsa frame grabber. This run-time license provides access to over 400 image-processing functions, an area-based template-matching tool, blob analysis, and lens-correction tool. The Genie series includes camera models with resolutions from VGA (Video Graphics Array) The display standard for the PC. All PC display adapters support VGA, and Windows machines boot up in "VGA mode" before switching to higher resolutions.  to 2 Mpixels and frame rates of up to 300 fps.
