United International Holdings announces agreement with Megapo Communicaciones de Mexico, S.A. de C.V.DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1994--United International Holdings Inc. ("Megapo") Wednesday announced that UIH has signed definitive agreements to acquire positions in Megapo's five operating subsidiaries An operating subsidiary is a business term frequently used within the United States railroad industry. These companies own and operate cable television systems in Mexico, and as of Sept. 30, 1994, have an aggregate of approximately 330,000 potential homes, 225,000 homes passed, and serve 48,900 subscribers in Acapulco, Cuernavaca, Oaxaca and Chilpancingo, Mexico. One of the companies was recently awarded an additional franchise in Cuautla, representing an additional 70,000 potential homes. UIH has advanced funds to the subsidiaries, and upon government approval, will own 30 percent of the four subsidiaries and 39.2 percent of Oaxaca. By November 1995 UIH anticipates owning 49 percent of the four properties as well as 39.2 percent of the Oaxaca franchise. The remaining shares of the operating subsidiaries will continue to be held by Megapo, with the exception of the Oaxaca operating subsidiary, approximately 20 percent of the stock of which is held by third parties. Megapo is owned by members of the Kahn family, its founders.
