"This enhancement now allows the crew to see activity in the hemisphere above their vehicle, in addition to the panoramic battlefield views provided by the first generation system," said Ashley Wells, United Defense's Eagle Vision Project Manager. "Eagle Vision would be an integral part of an integrated survivability approach that protects the soldiers and the vehicle system." The Eagle Vision demonstration and test system is being shown on a Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the United Defense booth 805 at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Symposium in Washington, D.C., Oct. 25 to 27. This second generation Eagle Vision system retains the Moving Threat Indicator (MTI MTI Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) MTI Metal Treating Institute MTI Moving Target Indicator (radar) MTI Magyar Távirati Iroda (news agency in Budapest, Hungary) ) capability that automatically detects motion in all directions around military vehicles and alerts personnel to the potential intruders. The flexible design of the Eagle Vision system allows for tailoring to specific needs or applications by changing the type or number of cameras, the field of view, or the number of users linked to the system. The current Eagle Vision display system will be delivered to Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD NVESD Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Director/Directorate (US Army) ) for field testing and user jury evaluations under a purchase order given to United Defense in August 2003. The Eagle Vision system gives every soldier in a vehicle the ability to see what lies ahead, behind and above in a seamless hemispheric view of the surrounding area. A helmet-mounted display with a head tracking system lets each soldier see the appropriate image for a given head position. A vehicle-mounted display may be used with a joystick or other controls as well. With the added MTI feature, personnel get an early warning system allowing rapid identification and location of potential threats.
