Unisys Selects TAVVE Software as Global Solutions Provider for Network Management in E-business Environments.

Unisys Corporation and TAVVE Software today announced that Unisys has chosen TAVVE Software as a Global Solutions Provider for network management.

Under the terms of the agreement, Unisys will have access to TAVVE's core technology of performance monitoring and fault management software products, including the recently announced tsc/ePROBE, a distributed solution for managing remote networks and e-commerce sites.

TAVVE's core technology will be embedded in existing Unisys offerings and also resold on a standalone basis. Unisys will leverage TAVVE's product capabilities when delivering its Unisys e-@ction Remote Network Management service to enhance operational efficiencies and expand the service offering.

By incorporating TAVVE's tsc/ePROBE in its Remote Network Management offering, Unisys will provide its network management clients with a truly distributed solution for performance and fault management in e-business environments.

TAVVE's tsc/ePROBE delivers a truly distributed solution for managing remote networks and e-commerce sites. By monitoring and reporting on remote network and Internet devices, tsc/ePROBE surmounts several traditional difficulties such as security concerns and duplicate IP addresses.

tsc/ePROBE has the intelligence to transmit fault and performance information, via a secure connection, back to the Network Management System (NMS). The interaction between the NMS and the remote tsc/ePROBE located outside the secure area of the network creates a Virtual Managed Network (VMN).

By drastically reducing WAN traffic and activity at the NMS, this VMN provides significant cost savings and frees up valuable resources.

As more and more businesses come to rely on e-commerce for success, it becomes increasingly critical to monitor and manage devices outside the traditionally secure area using the existing NMS. These devices include switches, routers, ISP-supported web servers, transaction servers, and order fulfillment services.

tsc/ePROBE provides the management capability outside the secure area and can even be used to monitor a strategic partner's equipment and connectivity.

Network Management Systems traditionally cannot manage equipment outside the firewall. Corporate security does not allow SNMP and ICMP (ping) traffic through the firewall, which makes the management of e-commerce extremely difficult. tsc/ePROBE solves this problem by communicating from outside the protected area back to the centralized NMS via a secure protocol.

tsc/ePROBE also makes it possible to manage organizations with multiple firewalls between subsidiaries or ISP customers. Additionally, in today's business environment of mergers, acquisitions, and outsourcing, duplicate IP addresses have become a major obstacle to effective network management.

tsc/ePROBE's innovative addressing scheme allows for duplicate IP addresses, but eliminates them as a management issue.
