Unisys Corporation today said it will announce the availability of the latest release of its editorial solution, Hermes 10.2, at next week's NEXPO conference in Dallas, Texas. Hermes 10.2 is part of the Unisys Media Ensemble portfolio of solutions designed to transform publishing by automating the workflow process and allowing multi-purposing of content.

Hermes 10.2 expands upon Unisys integration of Adobe Creative Suite tools by introducing comprehensive PDF workflow into the editorial solution. Unisys complements its new Hermes 10.2 solution suite with leading systems integration, consulting and server consolidation capabilities.

Adobe(R) PDF is the widely accepted file format in the publishing industry for advertising and graphics content. The PDF workflow component of Hermes 10.2 allows users to exchange, view, proof, and publish documents independent of the original layout application and hardware platform. Additionally, PDF files can include all fonts and graphics necessary for proper printing of the file. The workflow integration will allow Hermes to accept, paginate and output PDF files, creating the possibility of a complete PDF workflow. This will allow newspapers and magazines to predictably and efficiently receive, process and print files such as ads and images-resulting in the ability to better meet deadlines, improve customer satisfaction and increase profitability.

In addition to PDF workflow capabilities, Hermes 10.2 users will benefit from Media API, which is the Unisys software application tool created for navigating and searching the publishing content repositories, including the existing News Content Manager, Media Asset Manager and News Gathering Manager components within the Hermes 10.2 suite. For example, Media API will allow external content management systems to query the Hermes database through Web Services and extract content in XML format, the standard cross-platform language for digital publishing. By automating the processes to feed multiple delivery channels, publishers are able to eliminate manual content preparation which can save time and money.
