Unisys was among the first system providers to announce support for the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon platform.

The new Dual-Core Xeon processors provide virtualization capabilities that Unisys plans to extend with hypervisor software it is developing for the next-generation architecture to optimize application performance, resource utilization and power consumption. Virtualization enables applications using different operating environments In computing, an operating environment is the environment in which users run programs, whether in a command line interface, such as in MS-DOS or the Unix shell, or in a graphical user interface, such as in the Macintosh operating system.  to run simultaneously in a single partitioned processor space on a computer system. The operating environments can share application workloads dynamically, optimizing resource usage and increasing operational efficiency.

Intended as a common platform for all Unisys enterprise servers, including the ES7000 and ClearPath families, Unisys next-generation server architecture will be the first in the market capable of running Microsoft Windows See Windows.

Intel, the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 7100 Processor can boost transaction performance up to 70 percent and double the Java server performance of the previous generation of technology.

Commenting on the value of those enhancements, Colin Lacey, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Server Group, Unisys, said, "Unisys customers increasingly seek to deploy real-time infrastructure to meet dynamic transaction requirements and modernize their application environments to accommodate both legacy and open source applications. By enhancing the performance advances in the Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors with Unisys expertise in virtualization and system management, Unisys can help customers meet those objectives and benefit from quantum advances in server scalability and price/performance."

"Unisys is building on the advanced functionality of the Dual-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor 7100 Series in the data center, while optimizing customers' cost of IT ownership."

Unisys Real-Time Infrastructure and Services Intensify Value of Intel Xeon Platform

The Unisys enterprise servers in which the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 7100 Series platform will be integrated are designed for deployment in a real-time infrastructure which is driven by the customer's business policies and which directly and dynamically enables strategic business processes. This helps customers realize key benefits of secure business operations Business operations are those activities involved in the running of a business for the purpose of producing value for the stakeholders.
