The port, scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 1995, will make Maestro available for the RM-Systems within SNI's Independent Software Vendor program. As part of the joint project, the two companies are exchanging technical expertise, and will engage in joint marketing activities as the porting work progresses.

Unison's Maestro for Unix is a job-scheduling and workload-management solution for Unix systems, providing network fault tolerance. It is available for the HP 9000, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  RS/6000, and Sun SPARC (Scalable Performance ARChitecture) A family of RISC CPUs from Sun that runs mostly under Sun's Solaris, but also under Linux and BSD operating systems. After development began in the mid-1980s by David Patterson of the University of California at Berkeley and Bill  platforms. The product enables systems managers and administrators to automate cross-platform job scheduling and tracking to increase throughput and reduce processing errors.

MIPS-ABI is a standard that allows software vendors to do a port to one platform and then deploy the port across all Unix platforms with no recompiling.
