As more than 200 heads of multinational companies gather in Paris for the 2000 FORTUNE Global Forum from 14-16 June, they will have access to a state-of-the-art communications system In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole.  designed and built exclusively for the Global Forum. The 2000 FORTUNE Global Forum, with the theme "E-Europe: CEOs Seizing the Momentum," marks the second year that Dell and Nortel Networks have provided the communications infrastructure for the Global Forum: it debuted at last year's conference in Shanghai.

A high-speed, integrated voice and data technology system developed by BT, Cegetel, Dell, Nortel Networks and the Time Inc. Information Technology staff will ensure smooth communications and instant information updates for Global Forum participants. A wide-area network designed by Cegetel and Nortel Networks will link Global Forum sites in Paris. Through this network, high-speed Internet See broadband.  access will be provided and participants will be able to connect with each other through an internal e-mail system. A Global Forum Intranet will provide attendees with access to Global Forum session schedules, participant biographies, news, background information, live video streaming See streaming video and video stream.  of sessions, and a travel guide. Time Inc. Information Technology staff designed the Intranet portion of the system and will manage it during the Global Forum with staff onsite at all times to load up-to-the-minute news and information on the network.

Dell will provide a comprehensive infrastructure, consisting of its PowerEdge servers and OptiPlex desktop systems for the Global Forum's technology framework. Dell's computer systems will be placed in kiosks throughout the Four Seasons Hotel George V, the Hotel Prince de Galles, and the Plaza Athenee Paris Hotel.
