Today Unify Corporation (NASDAQ:UNFY) announced the immediate availability of Secure Java option for Unify VISION AppServer. Secure Java is an important feature for organizations delivering E-Commerce solutions and discovering a new environment filled with potential security risks.

Unify VISION AppServer with Secure Java provides these organizations with the strongest encryption capabilities legally available for use in extranet and Internet environments -- virtually eliminating the chances of sensitive corporate information falling into the wrong hands.

Unify VISION's Secure Java uses the Secure Sockets Layer version 3 (SSL3) protocol, an industry standard, to guarantee that each transaction passed between the client and server is kept private and intact. The protocol is used to verify the authenticity of the server and the client upon initial contact through the validation of digital certificates (electronic IDs) and exchange of encrypted keys.

Expanding on native SSL3 capabilities, Secure Java allows the type and strength of encryption to be set during each connection's initial handshake based upon predetermined security parameters for the application. This process ensures that both parties are actually transacting with the party they had intended.

Once the connection is secured, all traffic between the authenticated server and client is encrypted using a secret key and unique mathematical encryption negotiated during the initial SSL handshake. Message integrity is then guaranteed by a combination of shared hash functions that ensure vandals do not tamper with the message contents as it travels between client and server.

Secure Java is virtually invisible to developers requiring no application modifications to currently-installed Unify VISION applications. Secure Java can be implemented by setting a few configuration variables and supplying certificates in the deployment environment. Unify has evoked the world's leading certification authority, VeriSign, Inc. to provide root certificates.
