Unicoi Systems Releases Fusion IGMPv3.

ATLANTA -- Unicoi Systems, a leading provider of real-time multimedia software and reference designs to embedded device developers and OEMs worldwide, today announced the release of its Fusion Internet Group Management Protocol (protocol) Internet Group Management Protocol - (IGMP) An extension to the Internet Protocol, used by IP hosts to report their host group memberships to immediately-neighbouring multicast routers.

See also MBONE.

Version 1 of IGMP is defined in Appendix 1 of RFC 1112.
 Version 3 (IGMPv3).

The Internet Group Management Protocol is a communications protocol used to manage the membership of Internet Protocol multicast groups. Multicasting can be used in a range of applications such as updating the address books of mobile computer users, distributing company newsletters to mailing lists, and broadcasting streaming media to multicast group members.

Fusion IGMP (Internet Group Multicast Protocol) The protocol that governs the management of multicast groups in a TCP/IP network. To sign up for a multicast group, a Host Membership Report is sent by a user's machine to its nearest routers, which forward that data to , a fully-integrated component of the Fusion TCP/IP TCP/IP

 networking stack, is part of Unicoi Systems' middleware solution for multimedia devices. Unicoi's middleware solution, which simplifies the design process for multimedia devices such as digital set-top boxes and IP video phones, includes an embedded media player and a complete line of fully integrated Fusion multimedia software, including IGMPv3, RTP (1) (Rapid Transport Protocol) The protocol used in IBM's High Performance Routing (HPR) system.

(2) (Realtime Transport Protocol) An IP protocol that supports real time transmission of voice and video.

It enables the user's client software to provide remote control of the server with functions such as pause, rewind and fast , SIP and the WebPilot embedded web browser.

Fusion IGMPv3 offers broad RFC (Request For Comments) A document that describes the specifications for a recommended technology. Although the word "request" is in the title, if the specification is ratified, it becomes a standards document.  support including:

* RFC 3376 (IGMPv3)

* RFC 2236 (IGMPv2)

* RFC 3678 (Socket Interface Extensions for Multicast Source Filters)

* RFC 1112 (Host Extensions for IP Multicasting)

With Fusion IGMPv3, multimedia device developers will also enjoy these benefits:

* Support for "low leave latency," which is a reduction in the time it takes for a multicast router to learn that there are no longer any members of a particular group present on an attached network

* Support for "source filtering," which is the ability for a system to report interest in listening to packets with a particular multicast address only from specific source addresses or from all sources except for specific source addresses

* Interoperability with IGMPv1/v2

* Support for IPv4/IPv6

* Operating system and network stack independence

* Small, efficient footprint and minimal CPU CPU
