SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000

UniTree Software Inc., industry leader in storage management software, today introduced UDSN, a scalable and cost-effective solution for high performance mass storage.

The software enables system architects at high performance data centers to greatly expand their mass storage systems without having to replace their current servers which have reached their limits of compute and I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

bandwidth. Implemented over off-the-shelf low cost dual-processor servers (Compaq, HP, Linux, SGI (SGI, Sunnyvale, CA, www.sgi.com) A manufacturer of workstations and servers, founded in 1982 by Jim Clark. The company was founded as Silicon Graphics, Inc., but changed to its acronym in 1999. , Sun) each additional UDSN instance can add 80-100MB/s of throughput to the total system throughput. The separation of data and control paths allows for nearly linear scaling with each additional node.

"We are delighted to see UniTree's continued strides to meet the demands of the high-end mass storage market," said Hartmut Fichtel, Systems & Operations manager, DKRZ DKRZ Deutsches KlimaRechenZentrum  (Deutsches Klima-Rechenzentrum). "We expect to increase our storage requirements 20-fold in the next five years and UDSN's inherent scalability is a key component of our plan."

With key customer trials set to begin in April of 2000, the product is expected to be generally available in July, 2000.

"This is the logical next step in UniTree's continuing advances in the high-end mass storage market," said Francis Kim, director of marketing, UniTree Software Inc. "UDSN allows us to stay ahead of the explosive data growth we see taking place at the largest data centers around the world."
