UniSQL and LocalEyes Partner To Provide Revolutionary Web Search Capabilities.

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1997--

New Technology Promises to Unleash Power of World Wide Web

for Consumers and Advertisers

UniSQL, Inc., the leading provider of information management software, and LocalEyes, the only provider of GeoTopic(TM) web site search technology, jointly announced today the integration of UniSQL's Website Information Manager(TM) as part of a new search engine technology created by LocalEyes.

The result is the first and only scalable architecture for creating intelligent Internet marketplaces See vertical portal and Web hub. , finally capable of targeting a topic within a user-defined geographic territory.

The new search engine technology developed by LocalEyes, and based on UniSQL's WebSite Information Manager, allows Web-users to drill-down quickly to the content they are seeking and highlights and presents additional information that is relevant to the user's demonstrated interests.

"LocalEyes has reinvented the concept of direct marketing" says Mike Simon Mike Simon (born April 13, 1883 in Hayden, Indiana; died June 10, 1963 in Los Angeles, California) was a catcher in Major League Baseball between 1909 and 1915. Teams

, president of the McLean, Va.-based company. "At a time when every marketing dollar has to count, LocalEyes enables companies to make the greatest possible impact on their targeted audience and achieve the best possible results from their marketing campaigns."

"We chose UniSQL for our commercial website to help us dynamically manage a vast array of disparate data sources without sacrificing speed, flexibility, scalability or security," said Jay Virdy, vice president of engineering for LocalEyes. "UniSQL also allowed us to retain our natural, object-oriented approach to model the complex information resources (1) The data and information assets of an organization, department or unit.  residing on the World Wide Web."

The UniSQL Website Information Manager offers a transaction- based means to deliver Web-browser-based business-critical applications that easily manage the complexities of real world information including graphics, diagrams, sounds, compound documents, as well as classic relational data from multiple database sources, with industrial strength security and scalability.

"UniSQL has been developing these business-critical web technologies for more than two years," said Peter Nordberg, vice president of sales for UniSQL, Inc. "With UniSQL's Website Information Manager, we have commercialized the critical elements necessary to create large-scale, complex Internet applications and integrate them into the business mainstream. LocalEyes represents a great example of the power and practical application of our underlying technology."

The UniSQL Website Information Manager works in between the client and the Web, and database servers. A user query from a Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  is tagged by the UniSQL Load Balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  Web Broker and checked by the UniSQL Dynamic Cache Manager. If the requested data is cached, results are returned without the query having to hit the database. The UniSQL object-relational database A database that provides both relational and object database capabilities. See universal server.  engine intelligently queries the non-cached data from the appropriate back-end databases A back-end database is a database that is accessed by users indirectly through an external application rather than by application programming stored within the database itself or by low level manipulation of the data (e.g. through SQL commands).  and ships it to the user.

The system's query caching, load balancing and multiple database management were of great interest to Local EYES," said Jay Virdy. "We've combined 25 to 30 databases, and UniSQL is the database that glues it all together on the back end. The Web broker component will save staff time since the system will automatically shift processing based on the site's usage," he added.

The UniSQL Website Information Manager speeds query results by minimizing database hits and distributing processing to a middle layer instead of having a Web server directly access the database with slower Common Gateway Interface programs, said UniSQL officials.
