This new product enables IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  AS/400 applications to be easily deployed on Microsoft's Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. Billed as the fastest growing server operating system See network operating system.  in the world, Windows NT is expected to account for over 35% of the server market by the year 2000.

Targeted initially at IBM AS/400 Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), UNIBOL400 for NT is a complete application development and execution environment mirroring the features and functionality of the AS/400. This high level of compatibility provides a very cost-effective solution by allowing the deployment of applications on both the AS/400 and NT from a single set of source code. UNIBOL400 for NT offers AS/400 ISVs a fast track approach to selling their existing AS/400 software applications to a much wider audience. UNIBOL400's state of the art architecture also allows developers the option of integrating their applications with Oracle, the leading database for Windows NT.

Having already supplied its existing software on Unix with UNIBOL400, PK Software is looking forward to being able to offer their AS/400 applications on Windows NT. Otto-Ernst Pfeiffer, Managing Director, explains the reasons for this: "In our market, as in many others, Windows NT has become the dominant force and this trend is set to continue. It is a market we no longer can afford to ignore. If we do not provide an NT solution, our customers and prospects will turn to those companies who can. Re-engineering our AS/400 applications to NT with UNIBOL400 offers us a much more viable alternative to the costly and time-consuming process of application rewriting. With UNIBOL400 on NT, we know our future is secure."
