CMAA will hold its 75th Annual World Conference on Club Management and 25th Annual Exposition at the San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837. Marriott Rivercenter and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center The Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center is located in downtown San Antonio along the banks of the San Antonio River Walk. The facility is the central component of the city’s successful convention industry. The center, named for the late US congressman Henry B. in San Antonio, TX, Feb. 3-7, 2002. This Conference brings together club industry professionals from around the world for five days of challenging education, entertaining social events, and the largest tradeshow in the club industry. CMAA members were last in San Antonio in 1994, and the association is anticipating yet another Conference packed with professional development, networking, leading industry expertise, and social events. The more than 70 Conference education sessions will focus on both current and potential issues challenging club professionals; attendees will leave San Antonio with the confidence to maintain the quality of service and programs that club members demand, and combine new innovations that will carry their clubs successfully into the future. Pre-Conference Workshops Pre-conference workshops offer in-depth exploration of specific topics. They are designed to continue the tradition of developing the most comprehensive programs ever offered by the Club Management Institute (CMI (Computer-Managed Instruction) Using computers to organize and manage an instructional program for students. It helps create test materials, tracks the results and monitors student progress. ), combined with the commitment to prepare managers for certification. Managers are able to select from one of four topics on Friday, Feb. 1 and from one of four topics on Saturday, Feb. 2. Pre-Conference Scramble Golf Attendees have the opportunity to participate in the pre-Conference golf tournaments scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2. There will be two tournaments played at the same time at two separate clubs with two different formats. The Quarry Golf Club will be the host of the "play your own ball" format with 75 percent of the golfer's handicap counting with the best of two balls of the foursome. The Canyon Springs Golf Club will be the host for a four-person scramble. Teams will be paired according to according to prep. 1. Run/Walk for Fun The Club Foundation's Run/ Walk for Fun is back for this year's Conference in San Antonio. The run/walk is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 3, from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. 25th Annual Exposition Attendees will have nearly two full days to visit CMAA's 25th Annual Exposition at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The show is expected to be the largest in the Association's history, with more than 580 booths. More than 98 percent of member attendees visit the CMAA Exposition each year, and close to 70 percent of these individuals place orders with one or more suppliers at the show. Also speaking at Conference will be Erik Weihenmayer Erik Weihenmayer (born November 19, 1968) is the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, on May 25, 2001. He also completed the Seven Summits in September 2002. His story was covered in a Time article in June 2001 titled Blind Faith. the first blind man in history to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain -- Mount Everest. At the age of 32, Weihenmayer is on course to become one of the youngest people to climb all of the Seven Summits -- the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. He had already scaled Mt. McKinley in 1995, El Capitan El Cap·i·tan A peak, 2,308.5 m (7,569 ft) high, in the Sierra Nevada of central California. Coronado is across the bay. was overwhelmingly positive, CMAA will once again offer Conference attendees the opportunity to gain free, valuable, on-site job search and placement assistance. Last year the services proved effective in filling over 350 positions listed, providing reviews of the 187 resumes submitted for critique and giving more than 20 members first-hand interview experience in the mock video interviews. This year's center will repeat all of these services and expand by offering coaching sessions and personality profiles. Auctions at Conference The Club Foundation will again be holding silent and live auctions during the Conference. The auctions will feature trips, golfing packages, elegant china and linens, electronic equipment, romantic getaways for two, golf/sports equipment, educational conferences and books, and items for the club or home kitchen. The Club Foundation's silent auction will be open for bidding from Sunday, Feb. 3 through Monday, Feb. 4, 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. The live auction will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in conjunction with the International Wine Society's live auction. Hundreds of bottles of wine as well as various wine-related items await bids at the CMAA International Wine Society's silent and live wine auctions. This year's proceeds will again go to the Club Foundation. The silent auction will be open for bidding on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. (6 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. The live auction will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in conjunction with the Club Foundation's live Auction at 6 p.m. The Opening Event On the opening night CMAA's 2002 World Conference and Exposition, Monday, Feb. 4, members and special guests will experience the popular club tour. Attendees will depart via motorcoach from the San Antonio Marriott River-center to visit three San Antonio area clubs. This exciting tour will feature visits to the Dominion Country Club, Oak Hills Country Club, and the San Antonio Country Club. The club tour offers each attendee at·tend·ee n.
