Unapix Films' "Jane Doe" Wins Best Feature Film Award At New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1999--Unapix Films' feature, JANE DOE Jane Doe n. 1) a fictitious name used for a possible female defendant who is unknown at the time a complaint is filed to start a lawsuit. 2) the temporary fictitious name given to an unidentified, hospitalized or dead woman. (See: fictitious defendants, John Doe), starring Calista Flockhart in the title role, won the grand prize for best feature film at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival on February 3rd. The film, a dark romance, marks Flockhart's (television's "Ally McBeal) feature film debut in a starring role. JANE DOE premiered on January 29th, the closing night of the festival, at the Tribeca Film Center in New York. JANE DOE tells the story of Jane (Calista Flockhart), a charismatic drug addict, who encounters Horace, an aspiring but introverted 1. a person whose interest is turned inward to the self. 2. to turn one's interest inward to the self. 3. a structure that can be turned or drawn inwards. 4. to turn a part or organ inward upon itself. young writer who falls helplessly in love with her and tries to save Jane from her troublesome past. Paul Peditto directs his first feature film, adapting this tragic tale from his critically acclaimed stage play. JANE DOE was produced by award-winning stage, film and television producer Nelle Nugent, Christopher Peditto for igLoo igloo (ĭg`l ) [Inuit,=house]. The Eskimos traditionally had three types of houses. A summer house, which was basically a tent, a winter house, which was usually partially dug into the ground and covered with earth; and a snow or ice house. Films and Parco International and co-produced by Kenneth Teaton for Golden Fox Films. Robert Baruc serves as executive producer for Unapix Films. Joe Franzetta, Paul Davis-Miller and Marcia Schulman are also executive producers on the project; a joint venture between Unapix Films, The Foxboro Company, igLoo Films and Parco International. JANE DOE also stars Christopher Peditto (Above The Law), who recreates for film his acclaimed role of Horace, which he originated in the stage play. Other cast members include independent film star Elina Lowensohn (Basquiat, Schindler's List, "Seinfeld"), Joe Ragno (The Shawshank Redemption, Daylight), Arthur Nascarella (Enemy of the State, Copland The code name for a next generation Macintosh operating system that was expected to provide preemptive multitasking, multithreading, better crash protection and the ability to customize the user interface. Singer Martha Byrne (Lily on "As The World Turns") with writing partner Jennifer Marks provide two contemporary/blues numbers on the JANE DOE soundtrack.
