Ultrexx Corporation, Seattle, Washington (symbol `ULTX' on NASD bulletin board), announces that it is leading an International Consortium called Ultrexx-SSDI (Smart Systems Development and Integration) to pursue business opportunities in the Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor Initiative.
Ultrexx has entered into a partnership with Yayasan Guru (Teachers Foundation of Malaysia) to pursue joint ventures in the area of Teachers Training. Trained teachers will participate in the Smart School initiative, one of the flagship ventures of the Multimedia Supercorridor. Joint ventures presently being explored by the partnership include the design and implementation of a Teachers Resource Center and a network of Smart Training Centers throughout Malaysia. Ultrexx-SSDI Consortium members include the Community Education Life Long Learning Center (CELL Center), Grays Harbor, Washington and the Washington State University (WSU), Pullman, Washington.
The CELL center is a creative learning consortium dedicated to providing high technology services and educational lifelong learning opportunities. It is a unique Smart School environment connected to over 20 school districts in Western Washington and serves as a hub for telecommunications, voice, data and distance learning. It is supported by leading private and public sector institutions including NASA and National Science Foundation.
"The Multimedia Super Corridor in Malaysia is a significant opportunity for the application of advanced communication, multimedia and networking technologies. Our consortium members bring many years of proven expertise in the application of technology to education, including Satellite based distant learning. There is great potential for the use of knowledge base tools such as our flagship product `Cruxpert', in the field of education. We are very excited at the tremendous growth opportunities in Malaysia and S.E. Asia," said Ram Menon, CEO of Ultrexx Corporation.
The Smart School project is one of the flagship applications in the Multimedia Super Corridor. Utilizing new instructional methodologies, multimedia technologies and worldwide networking, over 9000 schools will be transformed into Smart Schools. This will involve an estimated enrollment of over 5 million students and 400,000 teachers. The project has significant implications, particularly on multimedia infrastructure deployment, training and materials development.
"Yayasan Guru (Teachers Foundation of Malaysia) is an organization that is committed to the welfare of teachers. It is the largest single organization in Malaysia with membership to date of over 150,000 teachers. The Ministry of Education is fully committed to support the Foundation. In order for the Smart School project to truly succeed, it is imperative that the teachers in Malaysia be trained in the new paradigms of instruction pedagogy and technology. We must assist the teachers to adapt to this new environment. The Teachers Foundation in alliance with Ultrexx-SSDI will bring proven expertise to achieve this goal," said Tan Sri Dr. Wan Zahid, Chairman of Yayasan Guru Berhad, during his visit to Seattle this week.
Founded in 1991 Ultrexx, is a publicly held corporation (ULTX) based in Seattle, Washington. Since 1996, Ultrexx has been developing "Rapid Application Development Tools" for knowledge base development and distribution over the Internet and the corporate Intranet.
