The UPF18060 ranks as the first UltraGOLDII(TM) LDMOS product in the company's new family of drop-in replacements with a frequency band of 1.805 to 1.880 and rated for a minimum 60W output power. Future products will include 30W, 90W and 120W power devices for DSC (1) (Digital Signal Controller) A microcontroller and DSP combined on the same chip. It adds the interrupt-driven capabilities normally associated with a microcontroller to a DSP, which typically functions as a continuous process. See microcontroller and DSP. , PCS and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Part of IMT-2000, UMTS provides service in the 2 GHz band and offers global roaming and personalized features. .

The UPF18060 can be dropped into existing power amplifier designs with no matching changes required, facilitating quick and easy insertion into existing DCS base station power amp designs.

The UPF18060 achieves high performance at a low cost. It is ideally suited for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). , GSM and multicarrier power amplifiers in Class A or Class AB operation. In addition to the high reliability of an all-gold metal system, UltraRF has demonstrated a 20-year operating life of its family of high-power LDMOS devices.

The UPF18060 industry standard discrete power transistor will be available in December with a standard turnaround time of only two weeks.

"We see as much as a 20 percent to 25 percent growth per year in wireless base stations with the onset of next-generation development. The new 2.5G and 3G wireless standards are quite demanding on power amplifier design, and as a result, the quantity of RF power devices, per base station, is significantly increasing," says John Quinn, UltraRF vice president. "UltraRF is responding to the increased demand with a new family of drop-in replacements that will be readily available. The UPF18060 will have a standard lead time of just a few weeks."

UltraRF designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of high-quality, customizable and cost-effective radio frequency (RF) power semiconductors, the critical component utilized in building wireless power amplifiers for cellular and personal communications services See PCS.  (PCS) infrastructure.

UltraRF operates a state-of-the-art fabrication facility. The company designs and manufactures laterally diffused metal-oxide silicon (LDMOS) and bipolar power semiconductors with frequency beyond 2.4 GHz.

UltraRF's operating headquarters are at 160 Gibraltar Court, Sunnyvale, Calif. 94089. For more information, visit the UltraRF Web site at www.ultrarf.com or call 408/745-5700.
