camera, which, company officials say, can be used for detection of telecommunications laser radiation, especially in the near and shortwave-infrared wavebands.

The camera employs a 320 by 256 Indium Gallium Arsenide Indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) is a semiconductor composed of indium, gallium and arsenic. It is used in high-power and high-frequency electronics because of its superior electron velocity with respect to the more common semiconductors silicon and gallium arsenide.  focalplane array and is highly sensitive to wavebands from 900 to 1,700 nanometers. Applications include laser-beam profiling, silicon-wafer characterization, fiber alignment and inspection, and optical component measurements and analysis.

The Alpha NIR camera is delivered as a complete Imaging and analysis system, shipped with a National Instruments PCI-1422 LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) A transmission method for sending digital information. LVDS sends data over data high and data low lines rather than data and ground.  digital-image acquisition board, a digital-interface cable and an extensive software package.

With the Alpha NIR software, the user can acquire and display 12-bit digital-image data, change sensor-head settings, calibrate To adjust or bring into balance. Scanners, CRTs and similar peripherals may require periodic adjustment. Unlike digital devices, the electronic components within these analog devices may change from their original specification. See color calibration and tweak.  the sensor head and analyze the data. Analysis tools include regions of interest, line profiles and spot meters. Software supports non-uniformity and bad pixel replacement. The Alpha NIR weighs 12.4 ounces (without lens) and measures 2.1 inches by 6.41 inches by 3.7 inches.
