Universal Wireless Communications Consortium will host TDMA conferences in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Monday, Aug. 9, 1999.

The one-day conferences will highlight the many benefits of the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards. The events provide a platform for TDMA operators and manufacturers to discuss the marketing and technical advantages of the standards to present and future operators, regulators, business partners, media representatives and analysts in the region.

AG Communication Systems Finalizes Agreement with Rogers Cantel Inc. to Jointly Market Next-Generation Wireless Office Telephone System

AG Communication Systems, a subsidiary of Lucent Technologies, has finalized an agreement with Rogers Cantel Inc. to jointly market the next generation of wireless office telephone systems based on TDMA technology. Marketed in Canada under the brand name of Cantel(r) AT&T(tm) Wireless Office Service (WOS), the service integrates the mobility of wireless communications with the functionality of a company's office telephone system.

AG Communication Systems will provide equipment for the WOS under its ROAMEO(tm) label and also provide turnkey sales, installation and maintenance support for Cantel AT&T customers directly and through Accord Communications Inc., a distributor for AG Communication Systems based in Toronto. Rogers Cantel will serve as the customers' single point of contact in Canada for this product and all other Cantel AT&T wireless products.

Hughes Network Systems Strikes Marketing Agreement with Rogers Cantel Inc. to Deliver Wireless Office Service Hughes Network Systems (HNS) announced a strategic marketing agreement with Rogers Cantel Inc. to deliver the next generation of Cantel(r) AT&T(tm) Wireless Office Service (WOS) to businesses nationwide. Under the agreement, Rogers Cantel will provide wireless airtime services to customers while HNS supplies a complete hardware, software and performance management platform through its AIReach(tm) Office system. HNS expects to begin shipping the AIReach Office System to Cantel this summer.

Cantel AT&T Wireless Office Service provides a company with the mobility of wireless communications integrated with the functionality of a company's private telephone system. HNS' AIReach Office system includes a network of low-power pico cells to provide wireless coverage throughout a building or campus area. It also integrates wireless capabilities with most PBX, Centrex, or Key office telephone systems. This next-generation system will operate in either 850MHz or 1900MHz PCS radio frequencies using the TDMA digital standard, which is the most widely used standard throughout the Americas.

BellSouth Selects Nortel Networks for Nationwide Wireless Expansion in Chile

BellSouth has selected Nortel Networks to expand its TDMA digital wireless network nationwide in Chile under a new three-year supply agreement expected to be worth up to US$90 million. Nortel Networks will supply DMS-MTX SuperNode digital switching equipment, TDMA radio base stations, new subscriber services and network engineering to BellSouth, which recently acquired an existing `B' band license to offer nationwide coverage in Chile, as of December 1999. Nortel Networks already supplies the infrastructure for BellSouth's `B' band network in the capital city of Santiago and the surrounding region (Region 5).

Ericsson and Telular Sign Agreement for TDMA Fixed Cellular Terminals Ericsson and Telular Corporation announced the formalization of an agreement for product development and marketing of the Telular TDMA Fixed Cellular Terminals (FCT) worldwide. Ericsson will incorporate Telular's FCTs into its product portfolio to provide carriers with a complete, turnkey solution for fixed cellular applications, based on the TDMA standard.

Telular and Ericsson will conduct joint product development activities supporting the integration of the Ericsson TDMA Radio Module into the terminals. In addition, a future product roadmap will be developed jointly. Ericsson will offer the SX4e FCT from Telular when proposing its TDMA fixed cellular systems and solutions to operators. General availability of the Telular terminals is scheduled for September 1999. This agreement is for the next generation of fixed cellular terminals which will provide features such as dual band (850/1900 MHz) functionality and support for both fax and data service.

Telecom Personal, a mobile communications company that operates in the north of Argentina, celebrated its third anniversary in May. The company has gained 600,000 customers in the three-year period and now has 67% of the market where it offers its services. Net sales between September 1998 and March 1999 were US$220 million, with a profit of $11 million, and accumulated investments amounted to $530 million.
