Hickey won the first annual "Breaking the Glass Ceiling" Award from the American Association of University Women ''This article or section is being rewritten at The American Association of University Women (AAUW) advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. (AAUW AAUW abbr. American Association of University Women ), which recognizes individual achievement for women in organizations. Hickey has been the UTSA Athletic Director since 1999. Hickey came to UTSA from Texas A&M, where she served as senior associate athletic director since 1994. Hickey was the head women's basketball coach for Texas A&M from 1984 to 1994, and took the Lady Aggies to the Sweet Sixteen in 1994. From 1979 to 1984 Hickey was the head basketball coach at Kansas State University Kansas State University, main campus at Manhattan; coeducational; land-grant and state supported; chartered and opened 1863. There is an additional campus at Salina. Among the university's research facilities are the J. R. and led the team to five consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. She has also represented the Big Twelve Conference as a member of the NCAA Championship Cabinet. In addition to the presentation by Dr. Romo, and remarks by Hickey, a panel discussion will follow on the subject of women in organizations and whether the glass ceiling still exists. The glass ceiling is the idea that there is an invisible barrier that prevents women from advancing to upper levels of management in organizations. Panelists include Hickey, Dr. Susan Blackwood, executive director of the San Antonio Sports Foundation, Dr. Martha Fasci, associate dean, Business College, UTSA, and Monika Maeckle, Texas Regional Manager, Business Wire.
