UTOPIA Project to Deploy Riverstone's New 15008 Ethernet Edge Router; Active Ethernet Network Provides Basis for Triple Play Services.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Riverstone Networks (PINK SHEETS: RSTN) today announced that it has expanded its deployment with the Utah Telecommunications Open Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA) to include Riverstone's newest product, the Riverstone 15008 Ethernet Edge Router, in the network's core. UTOPIA, which is utilizing an Active Ethernet architecture, is the nation's largest municipal fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.

Introduced in June 2004, the Riverstone 15008 Ethernet Edge Router is an MPLS-based, 10-gigabit carrier Ethernet router featuring a modular operating system for exceptional software reliability. By using the Riverstone 15008, Utopia will have the scalability, reliability and traffic engineering needed to deliver a mix of broadband-intensive applications such as video conferencing, high definition TV (HDTV) and data storage, with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). This, in turn, will allow service providers utilizing the wholesale UTOPIA network to deliver "triple play services" --bundled voice, video and data applications--to their customers.

The UTOPIA network utilizes DynamicCity's patent-pending Open Service Provider Network(TM) (OSPN) model, which separates the ownership of the network from the delivery of retail services. The OSPN model enables local communities to provide the public with generally accessible, affordable and reliable bandwidth for voice, video and data services from a range of competing service providers - and at unprecedented speeds of 100Mbps to 1Gbps per house. End-users will only pay for the services provided over the network, not access.

Riverstone began shipping its RS routers to UTOPIA in August 2004. The entire UTOPIA project is expected to take three years to build at an estimated cost of $300 million. Upon completion, the UTOPIA network will provide a wholesale active Ethernet network to approximately 140,000 residential and business subscribers in 14 Utah cities.
