UTLA WON'T HOST ANTI-ISRAEL SESSION.

Under pressure from the Jewish community, United Teachers Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  decided Thursday not to allow the use of its headquarters for a meeting hosting a group that is calling for a campaign to boycott Israel.

The meeting, hosted by UTLA's human rights committee and sponsored by the Los Angeles Chapter of Movement for a Democratic Society, was scheduled at the headquarters on Oct. 14, but will now move to a new venue.

The announcement sparked sharp feelings among union members Thursday, and the Anti-Defamation League Anti-Defamation League

 denounced the meeting, calling the group's campaign to promote boycott, divestment and sanctions Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) refers to an international economic campaign against Israel. The campaign was initiated by the July 9, 2005, call of 171 Palestinian non-governmental organizations "...  against the state of Israel ``deplorable and offensive.''

``It caused such a furor with our members that we felt for the good of the organization, it was critically important that we not host it at UTLA UTLA United Teachers of Los Angeles (California)  headquarters,'' UTLA President A.J. Duffy said. ``We would like to see a more balanced dialogue that would bring together groups of varying opinions to have this kind of meeting and to start talking about what's going on What's Going On is a record by American soul singer Marvin Gaye.
