UTILITY WORKERS LOCAL 223 PETITIONS MPSC TO INTERVENE
AT DETROIT EDISON'S NEXT RATE CASE HEARING
DEARBORN, Mich., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Utility Workers Union of America, Local 223, AFL-CIO:
The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today received a petition requesting Intervener's Status from Utility Workers Union of America Local 223 as a party wishing to participate in Detroit Edison's (NYSE: DTE) next rate case hearing before the commission.
In the petition, Local 223 states, "utility workers have a unique and special knowledge in this case related to projected production operations and maintenance expenses, fuel handling costs and overhead and training costs." Local 223 represents over 2,900 workers at Detroit Edison.
In addition, the union pointed out that the overwhelming majority of Local 223's membership holds Detroit Edison common stock, and are also customers of the electric utility. These workers share the interests of all parties in the rate case: Efficient, safe and reliable electric service.
Local 223 President George Manoogian said that he is confident the MPSC will recognize the unique opportunity offered by the union in this case and grant the petition to intervene.
