USX: U.S. STEEL GROUP REACHES TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH USWA

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas J. Usher, president of the U.S. Steel Group (NYSE: X) (USS) of USX Corporation, said the company is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement today on a new five and one-half year contract with the United Steelworkers of America (USWA). The new contract will succeed the present agreement which expires on Jan. 31, 1994.
"This tentative agreement comes after a lengthy period of hard bargaining, marked by considerable give and take on both sides of the table. We feel it is a fair agreement that achieves the goal of serving the interests of the company, its employees, and its customers in a tough global steel market," Usher added.
As in the past, it becomes the role of the United Steelworkers of America to explain details of the tentative agreement to its local union presidents and subsequently to its members at USS pending a ratification vote. The company will defer comment on details of the agreement during this process.
