USW ISSUES STATEMENT ON DEVELOPMENTS AT RAVENSWOOD ALUMINUM CORP.
PITTSBURGH, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- George Becker, international vice president for administration of the United Steelworkers of America (USW), today issued the following statement on developments involving 1,700 members who have, according to the union, been locked out for 18 months at Ravenswood Aluminum Corp. (RAC) in Ravenswood, W.Va.
"We understand that R. Emmett Boyle, chairman and chief executive officer of Ravenswood Aluminum Corp. is in the process of resigning.
"We also understand that the board of directors for Ravenswood Aluminum have engaged Pete Nash, former general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board, to explore settlement possibilities of the current labor dispute with our union.
"Needless to say, the United Steelworkers of America welcomes both of these actions. We stand ready to commence negotiations immediately and to work toward a mutually satisfactory agreement and the prompt return to employment of our locked out members."
